“Jim Reed Was There For Us”

“I am a grandmother and the permanent guardian to my grandchildren. My grandson, Zane has special needs due to a traumatic brain injury, and I moved to Scotts Valley to take care of him and his sister. When the home we were renting was being remodeled, we were asked to leave. I didn’t know anyone in Scotts Valley and felt I had nowhere to turn. I reached out to the city council and, to my surprise, Jim Reed asked how he could help. Jim directed me to the resources I needed so my family could stay in our home.

Later, doctors and teachers recommended a service dog for Zane. But it was so expensive, we thought it wouldn’t be possible. Once again, Jim Reed stepped up and organized donations from the community.

Zane now has his dog Barkley, who has changed his entire mood and improved his behavior. None of this would have been possible without Jim Reed. Jim and his wife Lea are now part of our family. They opened their arms to me and let me know I’m not alone. Jim exudes kindness and compassion and the qualities we need in our leaders today.”
